Programming & Events

We have an active programming committee and have established several annual events that have already become community favorites. If you are interested in getting involved with our programming & events committee please email info@slowfoodportland.org

Fiddlefest - A celebration of spring! 2008 marked our fourth annual Fiddlefest; past years have included tastings of Maine’s spring foods by local chefs, music by local fiddlers, children’s activities and a raffle and silent auction to benefit Slow Food Portland.

Writer’s Night – Regional food writers join local chefs to present an evening of readings and a taste of Maine’s winter bounty. Held in mid-January, the event’s past readers have included Ed Behr, Nancy Harmon Jenkins, Sandy Oliver, James Peterson, Anne Mendelson, and Slow Food’s own Margaret Hathaway.

Soil to Supper – Held at Rippling Waters, a CSA in Standish, the event brings foodies right to the source for a late-summer potluck that includes music and agricultural education.

Spring CSA Fair – A great opportunity to sign up for your CSA share or just meet the farmers and make connection with local food producers.

Slow Food in Schools – Daytime programs in local public schools introduce children to healthy foods and the fun of cooking. Led by Slow Food Portland members and local chefs, students prepare a meal from local ingredients, then serve it to their classmates.
